different moment of Costa Lambro, mixed tecnique, 195 x 165 cm

The sense of color and its variations depending on the type of light is the common factor in the artistic research behind the paintings on display.

Upon entering the studio, the eye will only be able to perceive some of the different shades of color landscapes in the room, coming to focus on each one individually only later. Imperceptible layers of primary colors, veils of blue and yellow on one side, yellow and red on the other, gradually add up on the canvases in an illusion of defined color, which only the changing light will belie. What in the evening, lit by the studio lamps, appears a warm, deep brown, the next day under the rays of a cold autumn sun will appear as a deep blue. The canvas remains the same; what varies is the cadence of the light, which will bring out red strokes or blue ones more strongly.

Fractions of color or fragments of questions. These are the elements that stand out on the canvases, almost forcing the visitor to place himself in a contemplative attitude in front of them.In some of the works on display, in fact, between the impalpable transitions of shades, glimpses of sharpness open up in which the image becomes clear and defined, in sharp contrast to the rest of the picture. These are glimpses overlooking the original intuition behind the work, which nevertheless remains enigmatic: a photograph perhaps, or a dream or a memory. The fragment of information that emerges on the canvas is a novelty but also an origin. From it sprang the gestures that led to the superimposition of colors and thus to the formation of the painting, yet its presence was added only at the completion stage, as a careful observer of the layering of brushstrokes might notice.

Saline

Sometimes, it can happen to see better through the eyes of others. The first time, I was bathed in light, on a strip of land among the salt pans of Trapani. Three figures were walking near us. We had already passed them at the parking lot: a guy had parked a little further on, got out and carried two women on his arm. They walked with difficulty, with flip-flops on their feet, between the asphalt, the earth and the light emanating from the water or the sky. The boy was pointing out to them exactly the pace: they were clumsy, big, and through the shrubs we could hear how they were trying to chase away the nuisance of mosquitoes. Then, the insight and confirmation: they were visually impaired, they contemplated through his description the sunset and, bathed in gold, together we greeted the day.
